Movies review

Spoiler warning!!  If you have not seen these movies, you may want to skip this entry, or maybe you want to know before you spend money on them.

Starship Troopers 2

Like many sequals, the quality of this movie was poor.  The biggest victim was the storyline.  The idea was interesting, if a bit predictable.

The execution was abominable.  I have seen better storylines on a D grade splatter horror.  In fact, if it wasn’t for the bugs, it would have been nothing more than a D grade splatter horror.

Much like the Highlander movies, the second one was a complete wash.  The political comentary is completely absent.

Starship Troopers 3

We see a return of the socio-political commentary.  This makes a very strong return, with the idea of martial law, tyrany, rigid social control and capital punishment for thought crimes.  This is expanded into social commentary on religion.  This I found very intriguing.  The idea that the enemie’s ‘religion’ is as believable as our own.  Look at relgion within the human context, it’s all about selling the story.  And the bug religion gods actually existed, so they actually had more to them than the human religion.  Imagine the disgust these creatures must have had for us. “Look at these idiot apes, they actually believe in fantasy stories and don’t require reality for that!”

The idea that there are no atheists in foxholes is remarkably offensive too all the atheists in foxholes.  But spoken is the ‘you would shoot him for madness because he believes in the wrong god?’ question.  But the obvious and blatant religious imagery toward the end was downright sickening and completely obviously fallacious.  They came so close to following the logical thought, just to do an about-face and rocket back into lunacy.

Added bonus, there are some boobies, and let’s face it, I like boobies.
